24 self-nominated candidates running for 2021 – 2026 NA election in HCM City

2021-03-18 09:37

The five candidates nominated by HUBA shared their thoughts on how the private sector contributes to the country’s socio-economic development.

Lê Viết Hải, chairman of Hòa Bình Construction Group and president of HCM City Association of Construction and Building Materials

I never thought I would run for the NA election or become a politician. Instead I focus on doing business. I was recommended to join the Communist Party membership, which used to be a requirement for running for a seat in the election, but I refused. The Party’s spirit has become much more “open” now as it’s looking for people dedicated to make a contribution to the country’s development, regardless of their Communist Party membership status, so I decided to be nominated for the election.

If selected as a NA deputy, I need to do something to show my responsibility as a leader of an association and a corporation.

It’s of paramount importance to gather talents from all walks of life, especially businesspeople, to seek ideas, initiatives and solutions to contribute to the country’s development.

The Government considers the private sector an important factor for development but the legal system needs improving to develop the private economy, focusing on their corporate social responsibility.

The legal system needs creativity and flexibility, which must be learned from developed countries.

A strategy for an “economic breakthrough” is needed, especially for the development of the construction industry.

Many businesses have suffered heavy losses due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of them have already gone bankrupt. Due to the limited State resources, we should focus on supporting leading enterprises to overcome the crisis to sustain the supply chains and distribution system of the entire economy.

If leading enterprises collapse, the whole economy will be affected, causing social instability.

Trịnh Chí Cường, general director of Đại Đồng Tiến Plastic Joint Stock Company

If I am elected to the NA, I will put national interests first. I want to contribute my wisdom and ideas to make Việt Nam more competitive in the international market, especially to create a more efficient working environment.

I think a strong enterprise must be competitive internationally. It is important to support enterprises to compete in the international market, not just for the interests of enterprises but for the interests of the whole industry.

Trần Việt Anh, general director of Nam Thái Sơn Import Export Joint Stock Company

If I am elected to the city People’s Council, I will focus on the business recovery programme after the COVID-19 pandemic ends, especially ways to the retain jobs for workers.

I will focus on creating jobs for the business community, including household businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises, because these enterprises are the most vulnerable group, and I will try to help them to embrace digital transformation.

I am going to be the president of the Việt Nam Waste Recycling Association, so I want to focus on recycling and waste treatment in HCM City, which is a long-standing problem.

Nguyễn Đặng Hiến, general director of Tân Quang Minh Production and Trading Co., Ltd.

As a member of the city People’s Council, I will focus on resolving all the problems facing businesses, especially enhancing their competitiveness.

From a business perspective, I have a responsibility to express a voice on behalf of HCM City businesses for the prosperity of the city.

Nguyễn Viết Toàn, director of ETEC Automatic Technical Co., Ltd.

If selected, I will become the focal point for State agencies in HCM City to understand the challenges facing small- and medium-sized enterprises, and manufacturing factories, especially during the digital transformation.

I will, of course, focus on digital transformation in enterprises. I want to help policymakers approach more closely the concerns and expectations of enterprises so that their difficulties can be addressed.

My expertise is in the field of automation as I have been implementing digital transformation programmes for the HCM City Automation Association. So I will definitely help city leaders apply digital transformation in factories.
