HÀ NỘI — Two Party members have been expelled for infringing Party regulations.
The Party Central Committee's Secretariat on Wednesday decided to expel Tất Thành Cang, a former member of the HCM City Party Committee, and Lê Văn Phước, member of Phú Yên Province’s Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee and Chief Justice of the People’s Court of Phú Yên, from the Party.
After considering the proposals of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, the Secretariat found that while performing his role as a member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee, Cang committed serious violations of the principle of democratic centralism, working statutes, Party regulations and State laws, causing great damage and loss to the State budget.
Cang had been prosecuted by the city’s Investigation Police Agency on charges of “violating regulations on management and use of State assets, causing losses and wastefulness”.
Cang is accused of wrongdoing at the Tân Thuận Industrial Promotion Company Ltd and the State-owned real estate company, South Saigon Development JSC.
The People’s Procuracy of HCM on December 16 last year launched legal proceedings against Cang to investigate alleged violations of regulations on the management and use of State assets.
Cang is thought to have broken stipulations on deciding the business co-operation policy and transferring project ownership as well as land-use rights among the companies. He is also accused of allowing the Party Committee’s capital representative to vote on the issuance of stocks to strategic shareholders at enterprises.
Meanwhile, Phước infringed Party regulations as well as the principle of financial management, causing serious consequences. He was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison for embezzlement by the People’s Court of Đà Nẵng City over crimes from 2010 to 2017 when he directed his staff to make false documents to appropriate more than VNĐ2.8 billion at the Phú Yên People's Court.
The two’s violations are serious, frustrating public opinion and badly affecting the prestige of the Party organisation, said the Secretariat. — VNS
