HÀ NỘI — Factories and employees of Samsung Vietnam donated VNĐ5 billion (US$214,000) to support residents in central provinces affected by floods in recent times.
The donation was given through the Fatherland Front Committees of Bắc Ninh and Thái Nguyên provinces and partly delivered directly by Samsung to people in flooded areas.
Earlier, Samsung Vietnam factories launched a fundraising programme for those affected by natural disasters in the central region. The total amount of the fundraising comes from the donation of employees along with contributions of the labour union fund and the factories’ social responsibility fund.
The Samsung sales office (SAVINA) has implemented the programme 'Joining hands with people in the central region to overcome the effects of floods' in the six most severely affected provinces.
Choi Joo Ho, President of Samsung Vietnam, said: “Social responsibility is considered as an important part of the business philosophy, Samsung always accompanies Việt Nam in community activities. Sympathising with the great losses in the central region, we hope that the fundraising activities at Samsung will help people overcome difficulties and consequences after the floods to stabilise their lives soon. Along with that, many of our employees were born and raised in the central region, so this supportive activity is also the most practical sharing of the company with the employees.”
Participating in the swiping donation nearly 80 times (one swipe is worth VNĐ5,000), Phạm Quốc Việt, an employee of Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thái Nguyên (SEVT), said: “My family in Thái Nguyên are also farmers, I deeply understand and empathise to the losses of the people in the floodplain. Because for some conditions not allowing me to come onsite to help. So, through the company fundraising programme, I and Samsung employees hope that we can make a small contribution to motivate people to overcome the tribulations."

Additionally, more than VNĐ1.6 billion through the CSR booth, including the sharing of employees and the contribution of factories’ Labour Unions, was delivered to fight COVID-19 in Việt Nam. — VNS
