HÀ NỘI — The ASEAN Senior Labour Officials’ Meeting (SLOM) was held online on Monday to prepare for the 26th ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting and the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting plus three, which are scheduled to open on Wednesday.
The meeting drew the participation of representatives of senior officials of 10 ASEAN member countries and the ASEAN Secretariat.
Deputy Head of International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Hà Thị Minh Đức updated participants on the progress and implementation roadmap of the construction progress and adoption of the ASEAN Declaration on Human Resources Development for the changing world of work Việt Nam is chairing.
“Việt Nam wants to increase co-operation with member countries and relevant international organisations to effectively carry out the implementation roadmap of the declaration in the future,” she said.
Referring to gender incorporation in labour and employment policies to promote sustainable employment for all, Đức said guidelines for incorporating gender issues in labour laws and policies have been completed and Việt Nam planned to organise a workshop related to regional research about the change of employment relations early next year.
At the meeting, participants also heard the ASEAN Secretariat's update on the progress of implementing decisions of ASEAN meetings related to SLOM and information relating to ASEAN Declarations that have been recently adopted.
The ASEAN Secretariat provided information about the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and the overall plan to implement the framework.
ASEAN member countries reached agreement on labour-related working plans during 2021-25.
The ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting is an annual activity held to review the implementation of activities of the three working groups, including the Working Group on Progressive Labour Practices to Enhance the Competitiveness of ASEAN (SLOM-WG), the Committee on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW) and the ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET). — VNS
