HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng on Sunday said national solidarity is more important than ever as the country continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic.

He made the statement during a visit to Village 5 in Yên Sở Commune in Hà Nội’s Hoài Đức District, as he was attending a ceremony celebrating the Great National Unity Day.

Accompanying the Party chief was Đỗ Văn Chiến, chairman of the Central Committee of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front, Lê Minh Hưng, Chief of Office of the Party Central Committee, and other leaders of the city.

Presents were given to eleven outstanding families and 10 households affected by COVID-19 in the commune.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Party chief stressed that the purpose of the Great National Unity Day was to build, consolidate and promote the people's mastery role, increase the strengths of the great national unity and elevate the role of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front in modern times.

“The occasion has an even more special meaning this year as the Party, people and military forces are coming together to prevent and erase COVID-19 with the spirit ‘fighting the pandemic is like fighting the enemy”, he said.

“And at the same time, we are also getting ready to implement Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels.”

The Party leader praised the achievements made by Yên Sở Party Committee in new rural development and the efforts made by the commune’s officials and residents in increasing incomes with several types of jobs.

He advised leaders and Party officials at the city, district, commune levels, and those of Yên Sở Commune’s village 5 in particular, to stay vigilant and keep a close watch on the COVID-19 pandemic. Special attention must be given to residents with low incomes and living in difficulties, and financial resources should be mobilised from different sources to help them get through the pandemic, he said.

“Whether we succeed in building a cultured environment in each family, village and commune depends on our own efforts, and building healthy, peaceful and economically-stable residential areas are for us to enjoy,” Trọng said.

The Party chief expressed his hope that the people will keep making contributions to building the great national unity, and residents in Yên Sở Commune, as well as those in other residential areas in Hà Nội, will do their parts in building a rich, cultured, modern city while maintaining its heroic traditions.

NA chairman visits Quán Thánh Ward

Vương Đình Huệ, Politburo member and National Assembly (NA) Chairman and other government officials attended a similar ceremony to celebrate the Great National Unity Day in Quán Thánh Ward, Ba Đình District, Hà Nội on Saturday.

NA Standing Committee Vice Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and Minister of Public Security Tô Lâm accompanied the NA chair to the event.

At the ceremony in the ward’s residential area 6, the leaders delivered presents to Quán Thánh Ward Fatherland Front and War Veterans’ Association, alongside several households who contributed to building the local community.

Minister of Public Security Tô Lâm also presented ten wheelchairs, two computers, and medical equipment for COVID-19 prevention and control to the ward.

Speaking at the ceremony, NA Standing Committee Vice Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn sent his regards to residents in the area, acknowledging that 2021 had been a challenging year for both Việt Nam and the world due to COVID-19.

Emphasising that the people and authorities of Quán Thánh Ward, Ba Đình District, and Hà Nội had all contributed to the recent achievements of the country, the NA Standing Committee Vice Chairman applauded Residential Area 6 for their encouraging results.

The area has been actively implementing preventive measures against COVID-19 while ensuring quality of life, social order and safety.

Hà Nội, and Ba Đình District in particular, have been witnessing complicated developments of the pandemic. NA Standing Committee Vice Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn highlighted the need to stay alert and prevent the spread of the virus.

All management levels in the city thus must assess the impact of COVID-19 to complete planned roadmaps, which would serve as the guideline to effectively adapt to the pandemic, heading towards socio-economic recovery and social security, he said.

Other focuses recommended include developing the Party and the capital city, overcoming challenges, and implementing the Party Secretariat’s and the Prime Minister’s directives on the campaigns “Vietnamese people prioritise Vietnamese products”, “All people unite to build new-style rural areas and civilised urban areas”, and continuing to build a “bright, green, clean, and beautiful” Residential Area 6. — VNS
